“Hippies In Pagrovia” at Wave Street Studios

John McCleary, presented an E-slideshow of images of the hippie history of Pacific Grove at Wave Street Studios, at 7:00 pm on Monday, December 5, 2011.

The presentation, entitled “Hippies In Pagrovia,” contained over 100 photos, posters and illustrations describing the idyllic, imaginative, and outrageous life in Pacific Grove back in the day of 1960s and 1970s counterculture. It included stories about Tillie Gort’s, The Granary, Oz, 812, Recycled Records, KAZU Radio and other iconic establishments of the culture-bending underground of the Monterey Peninsula.

In the spirit of the hippie era, an admission fee of $4 was charged, which included munchies, (un-altered) Kool-Aid and Fritos. John McCleary also sold and signed several of his books and a poster. Tattoos and piercings were optional. The event was taped for Internet access, video on demand, and AMP programming.

Wave Street Studios is located at 774 Wave Street, Cannery Row, 831-655-2010.
